We are approaching the end of the year and it’s time to evaluate things we hate. I hate a lot of radio commercials and after getting some great responses on Facebook I thought I’d compile some of the highlights from 2010.
Please comment with your worst of the year and if it makes the grade we’ll add it to the list. Regrettably, none of the companies listed below have their commercials available on their websites. If you don’t recognize these please post some that you do.
GlassHopper – The stereotypical Asian accent puts these guys at the top of the list. Try again young glasshoppa. I don’t want a ninja repairing my windshield.
ShaneCo - Tom Shane of ShaneCo is a regular on the Utah radio waves. He has been spewing forth monotone masterpieces and didn’t let down in 2010 either. Sorry, but I don’t have a friend in the diamond business.
My Dad Can Fix That – I refuse to take the time to look up the actual name of this fix-it-man’s company. I’m assuming the owner uses his own child in this ad. Please don’t ever take your child out of class for a recording session again. He needs all the education he can get.
Action Dog & Action man from some air conditioning and heating company. These guys have been around for a while as well. Obviously your family isn’t being honest, so we’ll help you out. You aren’t funny.
First Option Mortgage - The People You Call…Last (Ok, it’s really supposed to be first).
Dan the Laptop Man - Dan is annoying and he knows it. He’s happy as long as the money rolls in. It’s sad that he basically just picked up where SuperDell, from Totally Awesome Computers, left off.
Paramount Equity – I had to do a little digging on these guys because I hear their spots all the time on sports talk radio and it makes me want to drive into the median during my commute. Unfortunately, they aren’t a local company, but who’s writing this?! Me. It makes the list. Their President, Hayes Barnard, may have the most annoying, condescending voice I’ve ever heard.
The Old Spice parody for a local hair restoration clinic – “Hello, ladies. Look at your man’s hair. Now look at mine…” This one may win the gold medal. I’m seriously surprised that radio stations approve this crap. (*Submitted by Josh)
Yes, most of these companies radio commercials suck, but we remember their names and that says something.
Honorable Mentions:
SuperDell – I find it funny that so many brought up this menace to society even though he hasn’t done a commercial in a few years. The hatred lives on.
I still hate SuperDell
I think the GlassHopper commercials are hilarious.
Dude, most of the companies make more than you ever will.
The Old Spice parody for some hair restoration clinic is the worst. I don’t even know if that’s what it’s for because I automatically change the station as soon as I hear, “Hello, ladies. Look at your man’s hair. Now look at mine…”
Unbearable.
In my opinion most of these companies have stupid advertising on purpose. Like you said at the end of this article “…most of these companies radio commercials suck, but we remember their names and that says something”
@Josh – That one definitely makes the list.
Low Book Sales, their jingle gets stuck in my head like crazy.
Funny stuff. It would be better if we could play audio files of each commercial.
@iceclimber I considered not writing this post because of that very reason. At first I was hoping companies would publish their commercials on their websites, but I couldn’t find any and I wasn’t about to rip them myself. In the end, I just felt it would be entertaining even without the clips.
I’m not familiar with about 1/2 of these entries and I listen to radio all the time. My least favorite is My Dad Can Fix That or Dan the Laptop Man.
Keep in mind that I came from Seattle where the Shane Co. dominated every station about every 15 minutes. I’ve become immune to Tom Shane and his antics. Funny thing about his commercials is that they work better than any other test they’ve run and so they decided to just stick with it. According to our old ad man, they hate their own commercials but they produce results.
I second the embarrassing old spice copycat (UT hair restoration), and the “free iPad” commercial for repeating itself over and over…
Pretty much any time Doug Wright is promoting something. Also the Les Olson Company. When they say good service isn’t expensive it’s priceless are they saying that their good service is expensive but also priceless?
Actually, Super Dale has some some rather annoying TV commercials lately for Money Train title loans. If you haven’t see them, consider yourself blessed. I am surprised that Low Books Sales isnt up there. The whole music parody thing is so 2005!!!
Low Book Sales parody songs are the absolute worst. They make me want to learn how to make letter bombs.
How and why did the Sky Satellite guy not make this list? “Guys, you know guys you like TV and need satellite service guys” Most annoying by far.
What about the Guys from Sky Satellite Guys. They say guys 4+ times per commercial guys
By far the WORST is Hayes Barnard of Paramount Equity. That
guy sounds like a creepy televangelist pedophile!
And you know, I would never patronize ANY of these
advertisers for anything I needed. When I hear a stupid commercial
I automatically think they must be a stupid company. Or when I see
that a company is over-spending on ads, they have to be jacking up
their prices to pay for them. That’s why I use companies like USAA
insurance over Geico or Progressive– because I know they’re
serious and I know I’m not helping to fund their ad
budget.
Hayes Barnard and Paramount Equity were busted for deceptive advertising in Washington state. That’s a nice way of saying not only is he annoying, he’s a lyin’ bastard.

Geico insurance and Rosetta Stone. Must be on a thousand times a day. No customer here! Ever!
